A Perfect Party Dress

Mixing fashion's past and present is what I do. I am always open and looking for a current frock that is vintage inspired in silhouette or fabric that I can style with Vintage accessories. Yesterday when shooting my NEW, Limited Edition REWIND Holiday Headpiece Collection my chic friend Sydney sauntered in with this fabulous frock! I had to do a double take as I naturally assumed it was Vintage but to my surprise I was WAY off. I gasped in shock that it was from the Lauren Conrad Collection for Khol's. The dress is available in sizes 2-16.

With the right accessories you could take this dress to dinner or to a fancy holiday gathering!  It is a perfect party dress styled with a seasonal clutch in a colour!

Still looking for an Authentic Vintage look with the same colour story?

STYLE TIP: Have the gown shortened to create a different look.
Use the access fabric to make a clutch/bag or matching jacket to be worn with another look. Using a seamstress/tailor is the answer to making your wardrobe Custom Chic!

Do you have your prefect party dress yet?

Silver Saturday Shoe: Past to Present

Sex and The City S 6 Episode 83 "A Woman's Right To Shoes"

Fashion's Past ALWAYS serves to inspire fashion's future. It makes me laugh when women roll their eyes at the thought of a "Vintage" piece and how "un-modern" it is.  I recently sourced these amazing Silver shoes for the Holiday 2012 offerings at Evolution Vintage.

It reminded me immediately of the Modern Manolo Blahnik designed silver Sedaraby d'Orsay pumps I purchased in a slingback (c. 2007)
and were made famous in another style in the Sex and The City Episode where Carrie's shoes were stolen
Shoe Story: d'Orsay style pump is a shoe in which the vamp (or side) is cut away to reveal the arch of the foot. The front or back portion may be open or closed. They were named after Count Alfred d'Orsay; a 19th c "dandy", artist and friend of Lord Byron. This style of shoe was worn by men at the time and the cut out sides were introduced to accommodate a wider foot.

The buckle detail is the past-present connection.

The shoes from the 1960's are rhinestone encrusted in a similar buckle shape.
The Manolo's are encrusted with crystals.
The materials and design have evolved and obviously the Manolo's are much higher end but the basic concepts have been there for the better part of 45 years.

Are you ready for your Silver Cinderella Moment?

Manolo's come in a range of sizes.  (34-42 EU or 3.5-4-11.5-12 US) Order a half size larger than what you wear normally as this style runs small.

Are you a Size 7.5 AA? Rock your holiday party in this amazing piece of fashion's past.
and in Black from HouseOfWorwa $30 (Sz 6)

VOTE

VOGUE: July 1942

Today is a historic day in America, one that YOU get to participate in choosing the outcome. I have watched both sides closely, read the articles, listened to the opinions and endured the redundant campaign ad's. My choice was obvious but now it is up to YOU.

As a woman I feel this is a VERY important election. It goes way beyond the over publicised "anti-abortion" debate. We are talking about fundamental rights we deserve as EQUAL citizens to our male counterparts. Those women who came before us really fought, suffered and endured incredible hardship and persecution to secure our right to VOTE. Can you believe that it took until 2009 and President Obama to sign the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Be a trailblazer:

In 1872 Suffragist Susan B Anthony was arrested and fined $100 for attempting to vote in a presidential election (equal to about $1900 today). She fought the charge using the 4th amendment and lost. She vowed "I will never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty" and she never did! She was an abolitionist (slavery), Educational Reformer, Labor Activist, Suffragist and always fought for Equality! She died in 1906 never living to see women get the ability to VOTE!

Now use your rights to make your voice heard!

I am completely astonished that The Romney/Ryan camp even has 1 female vote, based on their misogynistic policies and beliefs it should be 0% and they should be left holding "their binders full of women". Set an example for your daughters, nieces, and sisters.

In my opinion President Obama deserves another term to finish what he has started. Hopefully he gets a congress who will cooperate this time and allow him to make the changes he promised. Voting for the same policies that preceded the Obama administration by 12 years and who turned the economy upside down is obviously counterproductive. Voting for those who have an unapologetic, archaic, patriarchal attitude will set women BACK, not FORWARD!

The choice is up to YOU!

Calling out the Horse S^%T

Actress/Author Kristen Johnston with her NYClass Award
Wearing Tory Burch Lace dress & Evolution Rewind Ring

The Internet never disappoints with  it's wealth of information and the wide range of writers who are providing news, entertainment and some less than factual pieces cloaked in insensitive commentary desperate to inspire a laugh.  My friend Kristen Johnston was the latest casualty of a feeble attempt to get a laugh. Writer for the New York Observer, Charlotte Lytton wrote recently about her experience at a NYClass Gala that honored Johnston and her work to fight the use of carriage horses in New York. A cause that I fully support and is a shameful practice that would make the angels literally weep to see the treatment of these beautiful animals and their living conditions, so visitors can get their asses carted around the city. I will discuss the issue further in an upcoming blog.

It was the last event I would have thought that would have inspired such an article. I wanted to highlight the poor journalism and conjecture Ms. Lytton supplied to her readers when saying "Ms. Johnston's boozy proclamations made the event's emcee Pamela Anderson seem, dare we say, rather demure."  This statement following a ton of not so kind jabs at Kristen's book GUTS, making light of Kristen's brush with death and her addiction, saying; "Ms. Johnson almost lost her life mid-pee which really could have elevated her to Elvis levels of fame". From where I sit I found her comments to be very insensitive and not funny. The death of Elvis Presley was another tragedy linked to addiction and I am shocked someone would even use it as a reference for a laugh. I'm also sure Ms. Lytton he is famous more much more than the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.

Ok, so time to call horse shit on what Ms. Lytton implied in her article; Kristen is SOBER and has not had a drink in 6 years. I could see how you would get her "boozy proclamations" confused with her real raw honesty, as someone would have to be drinking to be as candid and honest like Kristen is, right? Not so much. Kristen is one of the most unapologeticly honest people I have had the pleasure to meet in our politically correct, BS, faux, generic society. Both her strength and her vulnerability inspires many people.

Kristen has responded to the article publicly and demanded an apology and retraction. The comments are counter productive to the message she is sending in her book GUTS and to all those the book has inspired and yes it was a New York Time's Best Seller.

I would be proud to stuff my Christmas stocking's with GUTS as it is a well written, honest memoir about her journey. A journey we can ALL relate to on some level if we are honest with ourselves. In fact I actually did send a copy to my mother (read the article in the NY Observer HERE to get the complete picture).   I love a laugh as much as the next person but I honestly don't get the humor in the article about her sobriety or about the cause of the horses in general. So sad the high point of the evening for Ms. Lytton was the Joan Jett and the Blackheart performance, I guess you "love Rock N Roll" more than the horses :(

I hear there is an opening at the National Enquirer Charlotte, lets get your writing at a publication that is the same calibre shall we?

NOTE *While composing this blog the article was pulled from the NY Observer's Webstite and "Corrected"*

Baroque Bling

The term/adjective 'baroque' has 4 meanings but as it pertains to jewelry it refers to an irregularly shaped object, and is most often used to describe a pearl that is not symmetrical. It also been defined as something that is extravagantly ornate in character or style, which I think applies to jewelry as well.

I love accessories and respect the style sensibility of Marie Clair Magazine's Fashion director Nina Garcia and of course follow her on Twitter. The other day she tweeted her latest "must have" from the collection she curated for BaubleBar based on current trends in fashion. In this case: Baroque!

These earrings would be an amazing edition for any look for Fall/Winter 2012, the price point you can't beat AND the holidays are just around the corner.

The Ruby Triple Drop Earring $28 (Also Available in Purple, Blue & Amber)

As soon as I saw these earrings I thought of this Fabulous piece from Fashion's past.

Will you wear Baroque Baubles this fall/winter?
