SUGAR: Not So Sweet

We all love the sweet taste of sugar. I usually don't have much of a sweet tooth, unless there is a Cadbury Mini Egg involved. I have been doing a lot of research lately on health and nutrition and have been surprised to know how the sweet substance is making us all SICK.  I thought I understood how sugar was used in the body and how it has an impact on diabetes. What I uncovered was that I still have a lot to learn.

In the video clip below; Dr. Robert Lustig illustrates the overabundance of sugar in today's processed convenience foods and explains how our bodies metabolize these sugars in the same way as alcohol or other toxins, causing damage to the liver and other organs.

I do enjoy sweets from time to time but is it really worth it? an impulse to indulge in processed treats for the internal damage it is causing and unnecessary pressure on our already over worked systems?

Thought for today:  How much sugar do I consume? How much do I feed to my children?

Knowledge is power. When you know better, you can do better!

    Great piece.

I agree! Once I started learning about all the negative ways that sugar impedes on your health, I was more mindful of just how much was included in my diet and I didn't even know. You don't even realize how much you ingest on a daily basis. Take it from someone who considers herself a pretty clean and healthy eater but LOVED sugar (chocolate, candy, cereals...), I thought I would miss it. Nope. Once it was out of my system I could easily pass up an offering of chocolate - not because my willpower was strong, but because I didn't even want it at all. By focusing on what you want to be eating and how you want to be feeling (directly linked), you will go into auto-pilot to make cleaner, healthier choices!

  2. Thanks so much for your comment! You are so Wise!! I have been making serious changes for the better with respect to my health. MY first step was taking accountability for what I CHOOSE to put into my mouth. It is scary to see how much sugar is in the packaged foods we were mindlessly consuming in our home, assuming it is safe because it is widely offered.
