Couch Critique: 2013 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are always a highly anticipated red carpet for me as it marks the beginning of award season. I always celebrate the looks I love here. No need to bash the bad, if you don't see it on my list there is a reason.. I literally was couch critiquing yesterday with a less than fabulous flu.

My FAV looks:
Julianne Moore in Custom Tom Ford.
Katharine McPhee was a SMASH hit in Theyskens Theory
Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen
Kate Hudson was Natural and Flawless! Love the neck/shoulder dress detail!
Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthei

 Olivia Munn in Georgio Armani
 Louise Roe in Femmes d'Armes
Naomi Watts in Zac Posen
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu & VINTAGE Movado Watch

Jessica Alba was STUNNING in Oscar de la Renta WITH a fabulous diamond necklace which to me is the crown jewel of strapless dresses (PS: not a fan of that bag).
My biggest underwhelming moments came via accessories, or the lack there of. So many lovely strapless dresses ALL with bare chests. I think Jessica got it right and looks like a movie star. The rest ... boring. IT looks more cocktail than red carpet without the necklaces. We can call this red carpet "trend"
Naked Neck.

Emmy 2012 Red Carpet: My View

I love watching the red carpet and throwing in my digital two cents into the sea of blogs and websites who are essentially judging the looks. I like to only highlights the looks I love, no need to diss for a difference in personal taste.

Heidi Klum in Sexy Sea Foam (Alexandre Vautheir)

 Jenna Malone in J. Mendel

Jessica Pare in Jason Wu ~ Classic Hollywood GLAM

Leslie Mann in Naeem Kahn ~ LOVE the dress (w pockets) and the choice of turquoise jewelry!

Hanna Simone in Mary Katrantzou Balalaika

Julie Bowen in Monique Lhullier ~ I loved the gown and colour but the hair was a miss for me.

Julianne Moore in Christian Dior COUTURE. Love the dress & Colour - Needed a Statement Necklace or a GIANT Cocktail Ring!

I Loved Julianne Hough's Georges Hobeika gown. I would have loved it more on the Oscar red carpet. The Retro-GLAM hair was a wonderful edition to this look.

Honourable Mentions
Something about this Marchesa  gown I LOVE - the mix of gold and teal is Divine!

We all know Sofia is GORGEOUS and the Zuhair Murad gown was beautiful .. just a little expected.

Sole Sister .. Monday: So Vendi

Sorry kids I'm a day late with my usual Summer Sole Sister Sunday post. Lot's going on. Because we are ALL always on the go and torn a million ways in our busy, fast paced lives it made me think about "convenience shoe shopping". Would you ever purchase shoes from a Vending Machine?
What happens to our tired Soles after a night out or a long day of running around in heels? or a long night dancing your ass off in your 4" stiletto platforms?

Can you be Vendi and Trendy?

Fabulous Sole Sisters on both sides of "the pond" have came up with an answer!

AfterHeels offers a sexy slipper for the girl on the go, between gig's or just after a long night.

The AfterHeels Deal: "ultracompact ballet pumps to fit into your tiny clutch bag. Inside the clever packaging you’ll even find a duffle bag so you can carry home your beautiful heels"

They are made in England AND sole's with a SOUL for the environment. They are made from materials that are completely biodegradable, "The body of the shoe is made from natural, sustainable materials which biodegrade in the same time as an oak leaf." You can also re-use the duffle bag as a dust bag to store other shoes. Interesting concept! They are currently sold out on-line but they have vending machines at clubs across England - get the complete list on their website.

On this side of the pond?

Check out Rollasole

The 2 Sole Sister's behind the R met in a night club in Las Vegas with post dance-a-thon tender tootsies and came up with a Vendi solution.  There are currently 2 vending machines in Las Vegas: The Grand Canal shops at the Venetian and inside the Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.  There is also one at the Colony in Hollywood. You can also purchase them on-line via their website. You can even buy them for your guests at your wedding.  How many weddings have you been too that everyone dances  in bare feet?? No longer. They come in metallic colours and fab prints. Prices: $19.95-$40.00

Couch Critique: 2012 Oscars

I wasn't on the red carpet last night and watched from the comfort of my couch but I wanted to share my FAV looks. I'll leave it to Joan Rivers and friends point out the Fash-HOLEs on E! Fashion Police tonight.

Sadly there was only 1 Vintage gown last night, worn by actress Natalie Portman. A vintage Christian Dior gown in red with black polka-dots, circa 1954. I have to mention that it is not all about VINTAGE why I applaud Natalies choice. I personally am tired of the same generic gowns paraded down the red carpet courtesy of the celebrity stylists. Granted each starlit chooses the gown in the end of the day but based on options presented from stylists who are trying to be "on trend" or fashion houses sending their latest design. I wish that I would see the woman's personality more. An illustration of their uniqueness reflected in their style as they cast their net a little wider and opt for something 'else'. A dress never worn before on a Red Carpet, not necessarily Vintage (pre-1989) but even a pieces from a designer archive of looks from season's past. Trend's to me are part of the herd mentality as people strive to maintain the status quo by letting others lead the way.
Thankfully there are some true Style Mavens who dare to be different!

Other AMAZING Red Carpet Looks
Louise Roe in Black Halo

Rose Byrne Wearing Vivienne Westwood gown and CHANEL fine Jewelry ~ Total White Diamond ct is 40.77 white diamond total in variety of oval, cushion, pear, half moon, round, trillion cut diamonds.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford ~ Sleek & Simple Style (LOVE the CAPE)

Princess Charlene of Monaco in Akris ~ It is very plain but I'm mad about pleats!

Glen Close in Zac Posen - She looks FABULOUS! Age appropriate but totally current.

After the Carpet - My Party FAV's

Heidi Klum in Versace. The color, gold metal and textured material was a HIT for me. The length is perfect for a PARTY!

Modern Family's Julie Bowan in 2011 HALSTON - I love the draping & The Color! But I personally would have chosen a different shoe

Petra Nemcova ~ Love the dress w belt - not a fan of the makeup

Olivia Wilde in Gucci - Simple GLAMOUR! SO CHIC!

FAV Red Carpet Correspondent Looks:

Maria Menounos in Maria Lucia Hohan

Nancy O'Dell in Chagoury Couture - Love the dress but I don't care for the styling.

Honorable Mention:

Angelina Jolie looks AMAZING in Versace, however my issue is she wears Versace to EVERY event. I'm over it. She has access to ANYTHING in the ENTIRE WORLD and has the body for it too. I wish she would push her fashion boundaries more.

AFTER THOUGHT:
Is it just me or does JLO look BETTER at the After Party in Zuhair Murad?

JLO @ The Vanity Fair After Oscar Party

On the Red Carpet. This gown is beautiful and the sheer detailing devine .. except the arm slits. It would have been AMAZING and a best dressed for me if the sleeves were full.

There you have it folks, my digital 2 cents and Couch Critique ... Hope I can get a Vintage piece on a Starlet next year! Remember how CHIC Tori Spelling was in her EV Gown at last years Elton John's Oscar Party!
