Hot Mesh

I love fashion because it is forever changing, evolving and there is truly something for everyone. I don't personally adhere to trends but I do enjoy watching the new collections at Fashion Week when it comes around twice a year. Currently Fashion week in Paris is in full swing, showing Spring/Summer 2018 looks.

I noticed two collections, Dior and Saint Laurent (formerly YSL) both showed some Hot Mesh .. Black with dotted prints.

It reminded me how designers have to look back to go forward and this dress that I procured from the 55,000 Dress Collection of Mr. Paul Brockmann.

It was designed by Nolan Miller, the costume designer of the 80's hit show DYNASTY. Who remembers that show? Glamour, drama and all the over the top 80's garments that we are now coming to adore once more.

I used to watch Dallas with my grandmother and as a young girl the character Alexis Carrington was always a style icon with her cage veils, diamonds and gowns. Sassy and Fabulous!

The Noalan Miller dress was designed as part of a collection for Saks Fifth Avenue and is MAJOR Hot Mesh .... complete with velvet dots, bows and a layered skirt.

Pluviophile Perspective

Evolution Vintage Grey Dress

Our society is obsessed with labels, labels on clothing AND labels on people. I think everyone finds a strange comfort level to know that they have you figured out, categorized and have you labelled. There is one label that can be added to my list as I sit in the comfort of my home typing and listening to the rain outside do a tap dance on my back deck.

Pluviophile: (biology) Any organism that thrives in conditions of heavy rainfall
 and/or One who loves rain, a rain-lover.

I thrive, I create, I am comforted by and inspired by the RAIN. Any Rain, any time and the more consecutive days of precipitation the happier and busier you will find me. I have never been able to really explain my love and attraction to the rain and rainy days. There is a cleansing quality to rain, washing away all that was before and producing a fresh, clean slate or Tabula rasa as it were.

Living in California has kept me rain starved through the recent drought years but sincerely grateful for even an hour of water. I am so thrilled to welcome back this extended "rainy" season.

What inspires you?

Style Saturday: September

Top Left: Vintage Skirt
Bottom Left: Vintage Dress
Bottom Right: Vintage Top and Clutch

September is here and another new season is on the horizon. Because of my current geographical location in California I can honestly say my closet functions on a completely "seasonless" basis. I am Canadian born and raised so wearing a t-shirt in January in California is NOT "winter" to me. As the sun sets on summer many of you are starting a transition from a summer to fall wardrobe and color pallet.

This dress is my FAVORITE transitional piece:
The gorgeous ruffled dress boasts the mustard and earth tones of fall but the sheer lightness and metallic's of summer. The silk midi-length dress has the most exquisite print, micro pleating and tiered ruffled skirt (lined). The garment is so light it is like dancing on air. It comes with a matching fabric belt as well and gold metallic threading throughout.

I specialize in re-styling fashions past current and this was a really fun look. The model is wearing the Vintage Dress, Vintage Gold Tone Lion Necklace, The House of Kat Swank contemporary beaded hairband and current Anne Klein pumps.

The other model in the lush burgundy look will be featured in an upcoming blog.

Fashion Friday: Red, Black and White

Alexander McQueen

Red and black on it's own is a tough color combo. It can go really right and be very chic and timeless. Or it can go very wrong, looking trashy and tacky. Adding a dash of white helps keep it timeless, classic and balanced.

Today vs Yesterday: Emma Stone

Actress Emma Stone has become quite the red carpet fixture in Hollywood. I LOVED the Pink Valentino dress she wore last night to the ELLE Women in Hollywood Event. From my Stylist perspective I adore the Black & White gingham shoes and clutch too (belting this dress would have also been an option).

It always makes me happy to see fashion's past being re-styled and designed in a modern way. I guess the designers at Valentino had a peek into Mr. Valentino's archives for this piece from the 2013 Resort Collection.

Want the look in an authentic Vintage way? Style with current accessories or reach out to your seamstress and have the dress shortened to knee length as Emma is wearing it.
