Calling ALL Little Mavens

Tori, Blake & I

Today marks a beautiful step forward in my quest to see children with various abilities represented in a positive way in mainstream media. Let's face it, we are a very visual society and much of what we perceive comes from various sources of media.  My friend, mother of 4 and fellow fashionista Tori Spelling has joined the ranks of Target and Nordstroms with her children's clothing line Little Maven, sold at JC Penny with her new CONTEST inspired by inclusion.
Meet Grace and read her fab mamma's letter that inspired Tori

I know personally the extent and depth of Tori's huge heart and she has ALWAYS supported inclusion for everyone. She was so supportive when Blake was born and checked on us while we were on extended stay in hospital following his traumatic birth. She has shared my journey with Blake on EdiTORIal with her readers too (READ them HERE & HERE) and I am thrilled that she has launched a CONTEST for Little Maven's Holiday Lookbook! Read her post on EdiTORIal today.

Does your beautiful child deserve a chance to model? Have you always wanted to moonlight as a stylist? Here is your chance parents!

The contest is OPEN to ALL kids, not just ones with special needs or designer genes.

How to enter?

POST ONE image of your beautiful babe striking a post for your camera. Soot the image against a white/neutral background.

Tori will choose the winner(s)

SHARE, SHARE SHARE on all social media outlets.

DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 30th

Good Luck!!!!

A World DS Celebration!

Today is World Down Syndrome Day ~ Cleverly selected on March 21 (3:21) as to represent the 3 copies of the 21st chromosome! 21 March 2012 marks the 7th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day and for the first time TODAY will be officially observed by the United Nations.

The most important message of today is that people with Down Syndrome are more alike than they are different. They deserve the same respect, opportunities and celebration of their uniqueness in the same manner that each and every other unique human being does.

You can read our story HERE Posted on our friend Tori's blog EdiTORIAL from October's Down Syndrome Awareness Month!! Tori's Down with inclusion and acceptance! xo
I feel that the best we can do to promote acceptance and tolerance is to PRACTICE IT in our daily lives. My 4 year old watches and listens to EVERYTHING and takes her cues from what I model for her. She likes what I like or approve of and "dislikes" what I have an adverse reaction to (ex: Spiders). Educate yourself about the world around you. Not just people with DS but humanity in general. Different races and customs, religions, developmental disabilities, and MORE. We live in an amazingly diverse world that is ripe for discovery. I don't have the naive expectation that we will accept EVERYTHING that this diverse world has to offer but we can all RESPECT it and acknowledge each others differences as just that, Different .. not WRONG. I for one am happy when I am faced with something unique or set apart from what I call the "Herd Mentality".
Words cannot convey how my life has changed over the last 10 months. The evolution and growth has been astonishing to me and all thanks to a little boy with a little something extra! I know Blake will continue to be my greatest teacher and I look forward to all of life's adventures with him and our family.
How will you teach your children? your friends or family? about tolerance, acceptance and LOVE?

How will you CELEBRATE diversity today and all days?

Costume Jewels ... Trash? or Treasure?

Vintage Kenneth Jay Lane Statement Necklace - circa 1970's

Purchase @ Evolution Vintage

ALWAYS A TREASURE TO ME ...

I have always LOVED costume jewels; from the plastic vintage beads of my grandmothers to the semi-fine elaborate pieces of higher end designers. The artistry, colours and unique materials have always intrigued me.

What many people do not realize is that costume jewels have been CHIC for centuries .. COCO CHANEL being one of the biggest advocates as she rarely wore her fine jewels! She loved her "Junk Jewels" that remain staples at the house of CHANEL today!

I had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with my friend, Style Maven and Multi-Tasking Mommy Mogul Tori Spelling for her recent article in the Style section of her eMag EdiTORIal.

EdiTORIal: Women UNITE

There is no stopping the creative multi-tasking MOMpreneur that is TORI SPELLING. I completely identify with Tori as we both are hard working mothers who are passionate, creative and always forward thinking. Further to this it is our ultimate goal to bring women together while empowering and inspiring them.

I have always believed that women should be allies and not competitors. Tori has created a digital space to bring women together via her new on-line community: EdiTORIal. The website is laid out in the form of a digi-mag but also includes a forum for women to share information, tips, tricks, stories and experiences.

The topic range is all encompassing and put together is a reflection of a full life; the life Tori herself is passionate about.

STYLE (Fashion & Beauty)
DWELL (Home: Decorating, Styling)
EAT (Food, Recipes & Tips)
ENTERTAIN (Party & Event Planning)
CRAFT (Ideas & DIY Projects)
RAISE (Parenting)
LOVE (Relationships)
LAUNCH (Promoting businesses & products)

There is something in the EdiTORIal community for everyone.

To her fabulous resume of mother, author, jewelry designer, reality show star, wedding planner, shop owner, business woman, children's clothing designer, and Style Maven; she can now add Digital magazine publisher/writer and champion of women!

I had the opportunity ot talk to Tori about her new venture EdiTORIal:

LISAG: Can you explain to my readers: what is EdiTORIal?

TORI: EdiTORIal is a online community where women can come together and bond. Together we will discuss how to elevate your life. I believe life is art and you should live and create accordingly. We discuss everything from crafting to fashion to relationships.

LISAG: What inspired Editorial?

TORI: My love for life and people inspired EdiTORIal. I loved talking to women over twitter. They all inspired me. So I decided to build a online community where women could come together to discuss the daily topics that interested them.

LISAG: Who is the Editorial reader?

TORI: The EdiTORIal reader is someone who loves life and wants to continually grow and create in all areas of their lives.

LISAG: Do you have a favourite section? or feature?

TORI: I created all the sections on EdiTORIal because they were all areas of life that I was passionate about. Although being pregnant EAT is resonating with me right now.

LISAG: How can my readers join or RSVP to the digital party?

TORI: Its simple to join EdiTORIal. Just go to the website and sign up! Come hang with us!

LISAG: When can we expect to go "Home Sweet Hollywood" again with you & Dean?

TORI: HSH will be returning this fall!

LISAG: If you could give all the Style Maven mamma's 1 Maternity Style Tip what would it be? What is your "must have" maternity piece?

TORI: Belts! Since we've lost our waist I like to create a new waist! I wear my belts right under boobland to create an empire waist. It gives us some shape and looks flattering. So I've been collecting lots of stretchy vintage belts! You can create an empire waist with a belt on dress, top, and tee too! So chic!
