A Look At Lucite

This material has a wide rang of applications from furniture, jewelry, handbags, windshields and more. I love Lucite in shoe form, not the exotic dancer variety but those that saw widespread popularity in the 1950's.

Lucite was commercially available by 1937, and the material was soon being used in various designs. It's primary function during WWII was for military use but post war it was widely licensed to many products, including shoes.

Marilyn Monroe made the Lucite platform famous long before your neighborhood exotic dancer did. She took lounging to a whole other level.

With costume designer William Travillia on board she wore her Lucite heels in the film, "How To Marry A Millionaire" (1953)

In recent years high end fashion designers have resurrected the material in the form on heels and platforms. Prada, CHANEL, Stuart Weitzman in season past.

For 2015 DIOR, Christian Siriano, and Versace are a few of the names bringing back the look of Lucite.  I sent someone a message last August saying how fabulous it would be to re-create the Marilyn shoe with a current twist.  The 2015 runway's are a step in the right direction.

Why Lucite?

To me they are feminine and reminiscent of Cinderella's "glass slipper", in this case plexi-glass. Many of the vintage Lucite heels are embellished with stones, engraved with feminine, whimsical designs and are like another piece of jewelry.

When Lucite is done right it can be magic!

Shoe Style: SJP

The wait is over SOLE sisters. Sarah Jessica Parker has launched her shoe line, SJP. We knew it was just a matter of time before the woman behind the ultimate pop culture shoe goddess, Carrie Bradshaw would launch a shoe line. She has teamed up with the CEO of Manolo Blahnik USA, George Malkemus and exclusive retailer Nordstrom. The collection officially launched February 28.
The three F's apply to the collection: Feminine, Flirty, Functional.
Buckle up because the designs are very strappy. SJP is bringing back the ankle strap!
Of course there are heels but she also offers flats, sandals and espadrille wedges. And what is a sexy shoe without a chic bag to go with it? the clutches retail for $245. You can also find two trench coat designs in the collection.
Since her iconic role as Carrie, SJP has been a fashion 'heavy hitter' and a style inspiration to women around the globe. I have always been a fan of her style and wanted to style shoes from her new collection with Vintage pieces from my eBoutique, Evolution Vintage The ultimate way to re-style fashions past current, using SHOES!

3 More Days in Loubie Land

You have 3 more days to visit the AMAZING shoe exhibit in Toronto at the DX (Design Exchange Museum) (Closes Sunday Set 15th at 6PM)
Shoe designer Christian Louboutin needs no introduction to women (and fashionable men). The French footwear designer has become a household name with his bright reg lacquered soles being his signature. He is keeping celebrities and fashion forward femme's well heeled all around the globe.
The craftsmanship, design and materials were truly second to none. Something you MUST see in person... in the next 3 days if you live in or around Toronto.  I had the pleasure of visiting Loubie Land in August when I went home for a family visit. I could not resist a stop at the old Toronto Stock Exchange building to enjoy this foot feast for the eyes.

The exhibit is not just about shoes per se, it is about being inspired, artistry, craftsmanship, history and style. The hologram of Dita Von Teese was stunning, naturally.
My husband really enjoyed it and was amazed at some of the pieces he saw. The fetish section of the exhibit he found particularly interesting as well as the steps to construct a shoe. He and his converse were great sports!

Enjoy my Loubie Land pictorial. Hope you can catch it before it is gone ....
